More than 80 percent of Dar es Salaam's settlements are unplanned. Floods are a common problem in many of these settlements due to the lack of adequate drainage systems and houses being built in floodprone areas. A community mapping project called #RamaniHuria funded by the World Bank Africa was initiated involving inhabitants of unplanned areas in mapping all those areas which are repeatedly flooded.
