Traffic in Dar es Salaam is mainly concentrated on its four major roads commencing in its centre leading out of the city. Only a few secondary tamarc roads exist, while the majority of the secondary roads are gravel roads which are difficult to use especially during rainy season. As a result of the city's monocentric structure, the limited number of secondary tamarc roads among other factors, Dar es Salaam is experiencing heavy traffic congestion on a daily basis.
