Limited Public Spaces in Nairobi, Kenya.
Uhuru Park in Nairobi, located close to the central business district of Kenya’s capital city is a recreational park and one of the few public spaces left within the city. The park was opened in 1969, contains an artificial lake, several national monuments, and an assembly ground. Since its opening the park has been host to several festivities, political events and used for protests. The park is among the most popular public spaces but also one of the few left in Nairobi. Due to the rapid growth of the city land has become scarce and several public spaces have been grabbed for other uses. Nevertheless, attempts to grab Uhuru Park so far have been possible to prevent. #publicspace #greenopenspace #publiclife #citylife#landgrabbing #urbanspaces #localidentity#urbanplanning #urbanmanagement #city_explore#cityexplorations #uhurupark #nairobi #kenya#eastafrica #africa
