Who and what defines public space?
Who and what defines public space? Usually definitions of public space include streets, squares and parks in an urban context, linked to outdoor spaces. In 1748, Giambattista Nolli expanded the concept of public space. Nolli created a map of Rome that is a mosaic of private and public spaces, including privately owned interior public spaces as churches, theaters, courtyards and public buildings. The map is more focused on representing the experience of living in a city rather than distinguishing between built and unbuilt environments, being privately or publicly owned.
