Rua XV, Curitiba, Brazil.

The Rua XV in Curitiba, Brazil, is on of the first - if not THE first - pedestrian zone in South America. "Established" during the military dictatorship in a cloak-and-dagger operation by the former mayor and urbanist Jaime Lerner shop owners wouldn't take this without much protest. But it didn't take long until they understood, that a pedestrian-friendly city is good for business. Why are cities still so far from being made for the human scale, rather than meeting the needs of cars and vast motorisation? #publicspace #pedestrianzones #urbanplanning#economicvalue #pionieer
