St. Martin's Cathedral.Bratislava, Slovakia.

St. Martin's Cathedral is the largest church in Bratislava and a Slovakian national heritage site. It is located on the edge of the historical city centre just below the hill that features another landmark of the city, the Bratislava castle. In the 1970s, the Czechoslovakian government built a motorway that connects the the city centre with Petrzalka, a socialist housing project on the other side of the river Danube. The motorway has a major visual impact on St. Martins Cathedral and has even caused damage to the buildings structure due to heavy traffic. The case of Bratislava demonstrates, how heritage and new developments tend to clash. although there is an upside: with the New bridge's (Most SNP) iconic pylons - that include a UFO-shaped observation deck - another architectural monumemt was brought to the city.
