What is Cultural Heritage in a Former Colonized Country? Brasilia, Brazil.
What is cultural heritage in a former colonized country? Is the architecture left by colons representative of the miscellaneous people that form the new nation? In Brazil, these questions were the driving force that pushed architect Oscar Niemeyer to create modern monuments, as an authentic identity for Brazilians. The catholic cathedral in Brasilia is an example: The hyperboloid structure consists of 16 identical concrete columns in a circle, fusing Catholicism elements with indigenous and tribal circular worship places. The three angels in the interior represents the dream of a new united nation.
