Public Light Art Show, Rouen, France.
In Rouen, the capital of the Normandy, every year in summer a public light show takes place on the facade of the city's Cathedral. The old building was first consecrated in 1063 and the worlds highest building from 1876 until 1880 unitl it was surpassed by the cathedral of cologne. During the light show the sacral building is illuminated with projections and the plaza in front of it is filled with sounds from the house where Claude Monet used to sit and painte the Cathedral in the 19th century. When the night falls, usually two different light shows are projected on the cathedral dealing with different cultural topics. They change annually and talk about the history of the city. Light shows have become an innovative way of transporting cultural heritage and connecting it with modern and appealing technology. Techniques like light shows allow cities to create new points/ events of interests, combining modern light and sound art as well as classic architecture.
