My favouirte Spot in Santo Domingo, Costa Rica.

Latin American towns seem to be designed with community in mind. There is a definitive center which commonly includes market areas, soccer fields, family sports centers and spaces to gather for concerts or special occasions. A favorite spot for me in our town of Santo Domingo, Heredia, Costa Rica is the farmers market (la feria). It is bustling with such a bright and positive energy and literally bursting at the seams with fruits, vegetables, herbs and greens. And just across the street is our favorite organic food store, AYNI, where we also shop regularly. Although shoppers at the market are keenly focused on finding what they need for the week’s meals, there always seems to be time to stop and visit with a neighbor or two. The jubilant mood mixes with the background of mountains and well maintained colonial architecture and lifts the spirit. Even on the days when I don’t feel like getting up early to go I’m always glad I did. I return home with a basket full of fresh foods for the week and the grateful feeling of having connected with my local community and the soil of nearby farms.
