My favourite area in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

My favourite area in my city is the Tandale market. Tandale is one among many others wards in Dar es Salaam City which is mainly informal. Tandale is by people who don't live in the area perceived as dangerous, overpopulated, and poor. However, people who live in this areas consider Tandale their home. Tandale is 1.17 square kilometre big and has more than 5000 inhabitants as per 2012 census. Even though outsiders have a negative perception of Tandale, the market available in this ward serves a large proportion of Dar es salaam City's population. It is my favourite part of the city because at the market you find a unique community. People help each other during disasters, take care of each others children and everyone is friendly to one and another. Community Groups (Committees) help to clean the environment, provide security against thieves, and most of all try to make this area a better place. What if government initiatives try to complement what the community is already trying to do, will it solve many problems in informal settlements?
