OpenStreetsCT - Urban Mobility as a “Game Changer”. Cape Town, South Africa
Cities facing social and economic challenges are using inclusivity as a concept to address critical issues faced in communities. Open Streets by @OpenStreetsCT is a campaign that uses Urban Mobility as a “game changer”. Residents in Cape Town are involved in campaigns, public dialogues and walks that raise citizen awareness to issues. Open Streets describes it's inspiration from "Bogotá’s Ciclovía. a recreational programme that creates 120km of car-free streets in the Colombian capital every Sunday and public holiday. More than 400 cities around the world have followed suit with their own versions of streets that provide space for recreation and social interaction." Can recreational programmes address social and economic issues? Can social engineering create inclusivity in cities?
