The "Schwarzmarkt" neighbourhood initiative. Witten, Germany.
An inner city neighborhood, a little funding and the vision of a better way of living together - that are the key ingredients for the "Schwarzmarkt" in Witten, Germany. The initiative is made up of a group of young people, who wanted to change the place they are living in. Thanks to a funding program initiated by the German federal ministry for urban development (BMVBS), "Schwarzmarkt" was able to support local ideas for the neighborhood. The result: an urban gardening project, a quarterly artisan/streetfood-market, a repair-café, a zero-waste grocery shop, a refugee initiative and more. It seems that sometimes little monetary incentives can - combined with big efforts of local people - lead to big changes.
