Clifden Tidy Towns Initiative. Clifden, Ireland.

Sometimes, urban movements are small, but all the more effective. In the vein of urban acupuncture, the Clifden Tidy Towns Initiative in Ireland has little projects like this urban garden, which is open to everyone in the community. The town dazzles with its beautiful flowers and every Tuesday night, citizens gather on the main square to plant, water, weed and upkeep the town's streets and their beautiful decorations.

This does not only help to tighten community and neighbourhood bonds, it also fosters a sense of pride in the city that is self-reinforcing: The prettier the town gets, the more people will be motivated to take good care of it and to help maintain this beauty. These urban movements work well in smaller towns - how can we upscale them to work in big cities as well?
